This TED talk was given by Emily F Rothman who developed a Pornography Literacy programme for teens in the US – not an easy feat at all in some parts of America. She works in the area of tackling sexual and dating violence and her work had led her to understand that porn played some part in leading to violence in the relationships of young people. For example 11% of girls in the study had been forced to do something sexual they didn’t want to do that their partners had seen in porn. Also revealed in this talk is the somewhat shocking fact that dating violence in high school kids is more prevalent than bullying, suicidal ideation and vaping.
They use scientific evidence to lead with facts and data to help the students think critically about porn and the subsequent dialogues that follow. Horrifyingly in the US less than 50% of states require sex ed to be taught in schools and then less than half of those 50% require any of it to medically accurate!!!!!!
