Smashing

Steph and I (along with some other lovey ladies) had a session of smashing plates. We wrote words and statements on them about the things we would like to cover through this iteration of the project and about our own experiences. Talking about the domestic challenges of lockdown as well as life in general. We played around with different sizes and weights etc to see how they broke and then had a quick go at trying to glue them back together. None of the gold kinsugi kits we had really worked so have brought home some pieces to play around with more epoxy resin and some spackle (this has a proper name but I can’t remember what and Z and I always call it spackle from when we lived in NYC and everything in our apartment was spackled to the walls!)

Also thinking a lot about art and artists that would be relevant to this project as well places to gain some insight into stats and info etc like off the top of my head some research from people like Pregnant and Screwed, Flex Appeal maybe the Women’s Equality Party or the Fawcett Society on women’s experiences of childcare and work during the pandemic. It’s important I think, to be able to facilitate a good conversation, to have facts and neutral info as well as great art that asks all questions for us!

All this has been swimming around my brain of late and I’m looking forward to getting some more notes down on paper when they start to make more sense.
