You can watch my session with the dads of Dad La Soul on YouTube. Watching it back was quite helpful actually as I could see where any gaps in my knowledge lie and also how I adapt to a particular audience. It’s a pretty big overview of a lot of more nuanced conversations and I would like to have dug deeper if there was time but I also am trying to effectively not scare them off – based on previous experience with dads – so there is a lot of me not pushing them too hard! Also because the whole thing is more like a speech than a dialogue – with all the participants only being able to comment in text rather than talk – its harder to read the room so to speak and feel what levels of discourse the group is ready for or is coming along with you a thought process etc. Having the slides really helped also. The process of preparing was useful when it comes to thinking practically about how I can distill some of this information down further to more palatable sizes when needed. I still haven’t had much feedback despite asking the organisers to remind them. I literally gave them free porn and that still didn’t work so I truly don’t know what will!
