I’ve had some great meetings with the lovely Rafaella of Metropolis Gallery to finalise our ideas and details for the exhibition which will be at the gallery for the month of November. I wanted to make a call for artists with some background info but also a kind of resource document that artists can use for more specific lines of enquiry also. I’ve been going round in circles a little making this – battling my usual problem of not being very succinct but also over preparing of being too specific at every point. I was considering making a resource similar to the one I made for the Dad la Soul but I also am conscious of wasting time making docs full of links that aren’t necessary etc and I don’t want to steer the artists or their responses in any particular direction. Therefore I’ve kept it more toward asking questions and presenting facts/info that could be further explored but aren’t necessarily well known or considered. This pdf will be shared with anyone wanting further info about the nature of the show beyond the initial call to artists. I’ve set up an email address for correspondence on the project and spend hours and hours learning to use Canva to make all the visuals and content. I haven’t used procreate in the same way I have been when it comes to the blog or further visual language of the project because I don’t want the aesthetic of the project to dominate the exhibition – keeping the show a little more open and neutral etc. Learning to use the content softwares and apps is something that I have put off for a while in life more generally so it’s good – but very time consuming – to be learning now. I’ll need these skills going forward so the sooner the better really – even when I hate being in front of computer so much!
Once all the calls are done and shared I will also contact specific artists I think might be interested also and I am beginning to have a loose plan of what events we can put together to accompany the show whilst it’s on also.
Depending on the response I get from the calls and what kind of work may emerge – if any (worst case scenario) – I will take some steps towards seeing if there are other spaces we can also use, I think Ruth at the Feminist Bookshop will be happy to be involved and have reached out some other spaces tentatively also.
