Interview with Avril Louise Clarke

Had a great discussion with Avril, who works for the feminist porn producer Erika Lust heading up their new Sex Ed platform “The Porn Conversation” as well as working on set as an intimacy co-ordinator. Using the same framework as before I showed Avril three art works that help inform and address some of the subjects we discuss. I’m glad the format works and we easily fill an hour. I think if I were to continue I might use two instead so that we have more time to go in-depth with our subjects or simply just allow for the conversation to flow for longer. I’ll be interested to see how people respond because of the visual element also. Although there are plenty of podcasts that deal with talking about visual arts and there are ways to link the final thing to images the listener can view it could still prove just too disjointed.

So now I am gonna try and get the three recordings edited as best I can and then get some people to listen to them and think of interesting way to get feedback. I need also to think about how to sort of promote them as available as part of the show in November.

Art discussed:

Works by Marilyn Minter, Maisie Cousins and Leah Schrager.

Betty Tompkins, “Masturbation Painting #2”, 2009.
