I really love Maisie’s work and have used her images in various workshops in the past. The lush colours, the shiny visceral liquid textures and thoughtful juxtaposition of objects and imagery are really alluring to me. Her work generally seduces the viewers in the sessions and they offer us many opportunities to discuss the realness and messiness of sex and intimacy.
With Avril, who also really enjoyed this piece, we discussed just that, along with the importance of representing that realness and messiness in a positive and celebratory way. The work for me also brings in something that speaks to the reality of femininity also. How the performance of femininity can be both genuinely and dishonestly executed. Asking us questions about the value of the feminine in both culture, society and porn.
