Minter’s gorgeous photographs and paintings are sumptuous and beautifully executed. A contemporary of Betty Tompkins, Minter’s contribution to the “A Woman’s Right To Pleasure” book and podcast introduced me to her work. I love this photo, part of a series originally commissioned for Playboy that was then later rejected, ultimately too hairy for Heff.
Minter’s pioneering art has such a beautiful use of colour, the steamy textures and abstraction of composition all make for really sumptuous and seductive works. They give us opportunity to have a direct conversation with about pubic hair, particularly in response to porn as well as in the context of body shaming and the wider politics of female body hair. We can look at Minter’s work more widely to facilitate dialogues about female desire and pleasure as well as a celebration of the body.
