Workshops with Gem just didn’t really take off, we tried two different approaches via both an open drop in and a ticketed event. I think this happened for a few reasons. Firstly neither of us really have enough access to the younger student based Gen Z network who would be most suited to this event so the advertising didn’t go far. Also, it’s been raining for days and days here in Brighton, everything is flooded and and everyone is sick of it. Parents in particular are knackered, ill, broke and worried about Christmas. The best time to get parents is late spring (did I say that already at some point?). I was talking to a psychologist friend who told me she had a ready a survey that said 60% of parents would go into lock down again now ( I conclude this is without home schooling!) I thought this was a mad stat – I know things are bad but they’re not that bad, but on the other hand I would literally love to just stay home and do nothing all Christmas.
Anyhow, in terms of interventions collage wasn’t happening but it’s good to try. I think something like this would go down better in less formal gallery setting, there are plenty of venues around Brighton that would do something like this but with a more “relaxed” setting perhaps.
