This is the largest study on street harassment done ever so far and is comprehensive if not very depressing. iHollaback are a great organisation working on bystander intervention and interactive harassment prevention. Real, actual, practical help which is great and so needed, the work in all kinds of public and corporate environments and partnered with Cornell University in the States for the international survey.
The results show how young girls in the UK are when they start getting verbally harassed in the street and also just how prevalent it is for all women and girls. The UK has some of the highest levels in Europe too which questions a lot about our culture as well. It simply highlights how important it is that we speak to young tween aged girls about these things as they start to go out into the world and gain some independence.
