I absolutely love this analogy, I’ve read it to anyone with an appropriately aged child and an ear. It makes so much sense and is so helpful. Just gotta remind myself of it in those hard moments. It’s also helping me gain some insight in to the ways in which it might be best to try and connect and really engage with tween girls. Whilst they have one foot firmly still in childhood and are starting to dip their toes (more water based analogies) into the world of adolescence it might be worthwhile making sure there are ways to connect with them in both arenas too. Ways that will make them feel safe and comfortable but also ways that will make them feel empowered and autonomous.
