The Vagina Museum

I met the founder of The Vagina Museum, Florence Schechter, a few years ago at a Vagina Mandala embroidery workshop – yes that’s what I said, get on board! – which was run by the artist Jess DeWahls at London Loom in Hackney. She was talking about her initial ideas and aims for the museum which at that point solely existed online and in the abstract. Now it’s a space in Camden Market and it’s so bloody cool. I’m beyond impressed and inspired by the journey and hard work involved and would love to collaborate with the museum because what it stands for and is doing is so important and interesting.

I was planning to get in touch with Florence in early 2020 as I had been developing a series of workshops for mothers and tween aged daughters to use art process as a way to learn and prepare for puberty and periods. I felt The Vagina Museum would be a perfect collaborator on the project as I was trying to work out a way to scale up the workshops since they sold out instantly and I knew there was demand for more. Then the pandemic hit and that was the end of that. I’ll be for sure getting in touch again now and fingers crossed they’d be interested in a collaboration.
